Thursday saw a lot of paddling on the two breaks with quite large sets coming in on the main peak. Ireland had people out in the men’s short (Brendan, Wayne, Len) and long boat (Len), as well as Edel in the ladies semis. Len is still on the way to defending his long boat world
championship title with a wave in the last two minutes of his heat that moved him from 4th to first. But for everybody else the worlds ended today. Wayne and Len were both less than a full point short of second place in the heats and access to the last 16 in the world while Edel took some huge waves but still fell just short in the last minute. But she can leave in the knowledge that she finished in the top 6 in the world.
Tomorrow, Friday, sees another really long day with the 1/4s and semis in both men’s disciplines and then the team finals followed by the individual finals for all disciplines. We have Len out early in the morning and then hopefully another two times after that as he progresses while Eoin Keyes is in the finals closer to the end of the day. Tomorrow night sees the closing ceremony and a huge party with the ocean spirit music festival in full swing again for the whole weekend.
Best of luck to Len and Eoin.
